Family Healthcare is looking for a detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Billing Specialist!

The billing specialist supports the revenue cycle activities by reviewing, filing, collecting and resubmitting claims via an electronic claim submission.

This role proposes improvements and researches options to ensure the successful completion of submission of tickets to maximize reimbursement.

This role will be cross-trained to help with Patient Access when needed. Duties to include patient scheduling and patient registration.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Safeguard accuracy of tickets prior to processing:
    • Review tickets to ensure services provided are coded appropriately.
    • Review patient demographics to ensure accuracy of carrier requirements
    • Flag providers for charges that are not completed within three working dates of the date of service
  • Facilitate the successful completion of the claim revenue cycle
    • Work with various carriers to determine rejections and resubmit the tickets as appropriate.
    • Resolve outstanding provider requests by monitoring Hold status claims and reflagging providers for charges, corrections and clarifications until issue is resolved and tickets are submitted.
    • Resolve missing and inaccurate demographic information by moving tickets to balance forward for review and correction by patient services.
    • Work with all carriers to determine unresolved claims issues as identified in the billing charge que and provides requirements for resolution; resolve internal claim issues within system as authorized.
  • Responsive and effective communication
    • Research coding questions as requested to assistance providers and other staff members to attain the greatest revenue value.
    • Provide ongoing feedback to providers and registration staff to ensure that pertinent requirements for insurance, patient information and coding are understood.
    • Respond to calls and instance message inquiries from all staff.
    • Provide training assistance for desk specialties as requested.
  • Work independently to support department goals
    • Manage desk's workload utilizing weekly time management schedule to ensure all claims status are within expected guidelines and timeframes.
    • Ensure unresolved issues that are impacting claim processing are reviewed weekly for status update and a plan of action and the planned actions to move claims forward before end of each work week.
    • Accommodate shifts in workload for special or priority assignments with flexibility.
    • Support all desks of the department as required to complete departmental expectations.
    • Support the organization as needed.


  • Familiarity with Centricity/Visanalytics and Microsoft Office Suite preferred
  • 1 year billing experience required
  • Revenue cycle understanding preferred

Physical Requirements:

Standing, walking, climbing, balancing, bending, carrying, reaching, squatting, pushing, pulling, lifting, twisting, gripping, talking, typing, hearing/listening, seeing/observing.

Family Health Care requires that all employees provide vaccination dates and/or have titers drawn within 7 days of their date of hire. Noncompliance may result in an unpaid leave until this requirement has been met.

  • Mumps, Measles, Rubella (MMR) - Employees must have documentation of 2 MMR vaccination dates or evidence of immunity with positive antibody titer results. If employee declines indicated vaccination, signature to decline vaccine is required.
  • Varicella - Employees must have either had disease or provide documentation of having 2 Varicella vaccination dates or titer results. If employee declines indicated vaccination, signature to decline vaccine is required.
  • Hepatitis B - Employees who perform tasks requiring exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials, will be offered the Hepatitis B vaccine free of cost within 10 working days of employment. If employee declines indicated vaccination, signature to decline vaccine is required.
  • Influenza - This vaccination is required and will be provided free of charge to all employees. Employees wishing to decline the vaccination must formally decline the vaccination by filling out a declination form.
  • SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19- This vaccination is required and will be provided free of charge to all employees. New hires are required to be 'fully vaccinated' within 8 weeks of hire.
  • Tdap or TD - This vaccination is not required but is highly recommended. The Tdap is provided free of charge to employees who provide direct patient care.
